The Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is an international non-governmental organization that provides scientific basis and framework standards for enterprises to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, ensuring that their emissions reduction targets are consistent with the goals of the Paris Agreement (limiting global warming to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels and pursuing efforts to limit the temperature increase to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels).

The initiative was jointly launched by four institutions: the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), all of which are members of the world's largest business climate action alliance - We Mean Business.

As of the end of 2021, more than 2,253 companies from 62 countries (about 20% of which are from the Fortune 500) have set or committed to set science-based carbon reduction targets, actively taking action to address climate change. Among them, 1,171 companies have committed to setting science-based carbon reduction targets, and 1,082 have already completed the process. More than 63% of the companies have committed to setting more ambitious emissions reduction targets based on the "1.5°C target". 

101 companies from mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan have set or committed to set science-based carbon reduction targets, including 32 companies that have already set such targets, including well-known logistics, technology, and real estate companies such as JD Logistics, Alibaba, YumChina, Haier, and ZIM. In 2021, companies that have joined or committed to join SBTi accounted for 35% of the global market value, up from 20% in 2020, equivalent to $38 trillion in market value.
